San Jacinto
This event depicts the final battle between the Texian army
commanded by Sam Houston and Santa Anna. We will be reenacting this event on April 26th. Since
this event is held in Houston, Tx. I consider this the best event for families
to attend at practically no cost. Although the battle reenactment starts
around 3:00 PM Saturday, you can spend most of the day visiting the Texian and
Mexican camps. For the young ones, we will line you up with wooden muskets
and train you in marching. If you are lucky you may get to meet Sam
Houston himself. Our brave soldiers who will be firing the cannon will
give demonstrations. They usually will pick children from the crowd to go
through a drill. Not to worry, we won't let them fire it (although we
don't tell them) Nothing like watching a young man touch the fuse to light off
the cannon while someone yells boom behind him. When you tour the Mexian
camp, be sure to ask why they are there. You will find there was another
view point to the revolution. After you have visited the camps, the link below furnishes all the other activities. The best time to tour the camps is before lunch when the reenactors are fresh and are not eating. Recommendations: 1. Get your seat early. The picture above was taken at 2:30, 30 min. before the reenactment. They are lined up like this on the other side. I recommend you get a seat at least 45 min. before the reenactment (just watch the crowds and judge for your self). 2. Sit close to the Mexican side that is where the action will be. 3. Avoid the ferry if arriving mid afternoon lines are long. 4. Visit camps before lunch for maximum enjoyment. At lunch reenactors are eating and around 2:00 the camps will be getting ready for the battle. http://www.sanjacinto-museum.org/
